| Accessing the firewall in Windows XP |
You can access the Windows XP firewall either directly or as a part of the Security Center.
Accessing the Windows XP firewall directly:
Access the Control Panel. In the Control Panel window you will find an icon for the Windows XP
firewall:
Double-click on the icon to open the preferences for the firewall:
Make sure to select "On (recommended)" and press OK to confirm your selection.
Accessing the Windows XP firewall as a part of the Security Center:
The Security Center will notify you if the firewall is switched off (see below):
Click the balloon and the Security Center will open up:
Click on "Recommendations" and you will be given the option to enable the firewall:
If the firewall is successfully enabled, this window will appear (see below):
