How do I delete the contents of my Temporary Internet Files folder?

If the scan finds an infection in "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files" folder, you may need to remove all temporary Internet files from your computer.

The Temporary Internet Files (or cache) folder contains web page content that is stored on your hard disk for quick viewing. This cache permits Internet Explorer or MSN Explorer to download only the content that has changed since you last viewed a web page, instead of downloading all the content for a page every time it is displayed.

To delete your temporary Internet files using Internet Explorer:

• Deleting the Temporary Internet Files folder in Internet Explorer, files that start with the word "Cookie" may remain in the folder.
• If the Temporary Internet Files folder contains a significant amount of Web page content, this process may take several minutes to complete.

1. Open Internet Explorer browser
2. Select Tools from the top menu and click Internet Options (see below)



3. In the "Temporary Internet files", click Delete Files (see below)



4. Check Delete all offline content to delete all temporary Internet files including offline content that is stored on your local drive.



5. Click OK
6. Click Apply and OK to finish

To delete your temporary Internet files using Windows Explorer:

Note: Procedure below may delete all temporary Internet files including Cookies files.

1. Set the Windows Explorer to view the address bar. To do this:
   1. Open My Documents
   2. Click View > Toolbars and check the Address Bar option.

2. In the address bar, type the path below and press Enter key from your keyboard.

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

In Username, you may enter the name of the user who is currently logged on e.g. Jane or Jane Doe.

3. In "C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files" folder, all temporary Internet files are displayed. Press Ctrl+A at once to select all files and then, press the Delete key from your keyboard to remove all these items.

To delete your temporary Internet files at the command prompt:

Note: Procedure below may delete all temporary Internet files including Cookies files.

1. Press Start and select Run.
2. Type cmd and click OK. The command prompt appears on screen.
3. At the command prompt type:

c:	[ENTER]
cd\	[ENTER]
del "%Userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\*.*"	[ENTER]

4. A message appears such as

   "C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\*.*, Are you sure (Y/N)?"

   Enter Y to confirm. Then, all temporary Internet files are deleted.
