Please note that version 6 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows has been released. We recommend that all Home, Corporate and Mail Server users of version 3 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows upgrade their program to the newest version as soon as possible.


Failed to retrieve updates from server. System error: The virus signature container seems to be corrupted. System error: 10

Error message that appears:

The reason for this error is that the virus signature files that were downloaded are corrupted. The reason for this can be a bad connection, a proxy server, not enough disk space and so on.

Solution:

There is a great chance that this is a temporary issue. Therefore we urge you to try to update the virus signature files again if this error occurs.

If updating the virus signature files through the Updater does not solve the problem, try updating the virus signature files manually. Do the following:

  1. Disable the RealTime Protector prior to deleting the files. This is done by right-clicking on its icon (F-StopW) in the system tray (bottom right hand corner) and selecting to exit. Make sure that you enable it again afterwards, to do so, run the program and press the RealTime Protector button.
  2. Now access the "C:\Program Files\FSI\F-PROT" (default location) folder and delete the following files:
  3. Sign.def
    Sign2.def
    Macro.def

    NB: F-PROT Antivirus engine itself will not run after deleting the definition files (Sign.def, Sign2.def, Macro.def). You will probably receive an error like Error:SIGN.DEF not found.

  4. Run the Updater. To do this:
    1. Click Start and then All Programs.
    2. Locate F-PROT Antivirus for Windows and then select Updater.
    3. Click the Update button. Then, the virus signature files will be downloaded and installed immediately.

If the procedure above does not solve the problem, we advise you to send us a report for analysis. It is important to gather all information needed first, before sending it to us such as the time it occurs and the server it downloads.

To do this:
  1. Drag the system error window (same window as above) somewhere else so you can the read the information needed from the window behind it.
  2. In the Updater window, write down the information in "Downloading from server"
  3. Write down what time it occurs. The time on the right side of your task bar.
  4. Send us all the information you have gathered by clicking E-mail support.
