Please note that version 6 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows has been released. We recommend that all Home, Corporate and Mail Server users of version 3 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows upgrade their program to the newest version as soon as possible.
| Limited users unable to update the virus signature files |
Users who have limited access to the computer may encounter problems when updating the virus signature files. They may receive error messages such as:
If you want users with limited access to be able to update the virus signature files you will have to give them Full Control of the F-PROT folder and write access to the Updater's registry key. Please note that before you begin make sure you are logged onto the computer with administrative privileges.
Giving users with limited access Full Control of the F-PROT folder
The F-PROT folder is located by default in C:\Program Files\FSI\F-PROT. Locate the folder and right-click on it. Select "Properties". Select the user and check the box that says "Full Control":

Giving users with limited access write access to the Updater's registry key
Click on "Start" and "Run" and type regedit:

Locate the following registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FRISK Software International\FP-Updater]
Right-click on the registry key and select "Permissions":

In the "Permission" panel select the user you want to give access to the Updater's registry key and check "Full Control":

Checking the current owner of the item
Click "Advanced" button in the "Advanced Security Setting for FP-Updater" window.

In the "Advanced Security Settings for FP-Updater" window. Click the "Owner" tab. Notice the current owner of the item box. In here, the owner should have administrative permissions otherwise users who have limited permissions encounters write access conflicts with the Updater. This owner should also appear in Windows Scheduler.

Select "Apply" to confirm the change and then "OK" to close the panel. Close the Registry Editor and restart the computer.
