Summary
Product: F-PROT Antivirus for Windows
Version: All versions

Please note that version 6 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows has been released. We recommend that all Home, Corporate and Mail Server users of version 3 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows upgrade their program to the newest version as soon as possible.

What issues might arise regarding F-PROT Antivirus and the Security Center in Windows XP SP2?

  1. If you have no antivirus product installed on your computer the Security Center will alert you that your computer in not protected:
  2. If F-PROT Antivirus does not have the latest version of virus signature files, the Windows Security Center will alert you that F-PROT Antivirus is out-of-date:
  3. If F-PROT Antivirus is running with the latest version of virus signature files and the service is enabled, the Windows Security Center will display a green graphic symbol which means that the status of F-PROT Antivirus is good.
What effect will the Security Center have on F-PROT Antivirus?

The Windows Security Center will be aware that you have F-PROT Antivirus installed. F-PROT Antivirus will communicate with the Windows Security Center and you will be informed if new virus signature files are available or if any of the vital components of F-PROT Antivirus have, for some reason, been disabled. The Windows Security Center itself will not turn off any part of F-PROT Antivirus nor hamper its capabilities. If you enable the powerful firewall that comes with the Windows Security Center you will, however, have to allow F-PROT Antivirus to connect to the Internet to retreive new virus signature files.

For general information, see About the Windows Security Center in Windows XP.

Do I need F-PROT Antivirus when I have set up the Windows Security Center?

Definitely! The Windows Security Center does have a firewall and alerts you if the installed antivirus product is out-of-date but the Security Center has no antivirus capability itself. In fact, if you remove F-PROT Antivirus from your system, the Windows Security Center will alert you that your computer is no longer secure.

How do I know that my computer is secure?

We recommend that you always keep your copy of F-PROT Antivirus up-to-date. When you have downloaded and installed Service Pack 2 it will monitor the status of your system.

We also recommend that you enable the firewall in Windows XP SP2. For further information, see Accessing the firewall in Windows XP.
