Please note that version 6 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows has been released. We recommend that all Home, Corporate and Mail Server users of version 3 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows upgrade their program to the newest version as soon as possible.
| How do I keep the virus signature files up to date? |
Included in F-PROT Antivirus for Windows is the Update Monitor. This component will check for new virus signature files at regular intervals whenever your computer is connected to the Internet. Information regarding the status of the virus signature files is displayed on the main screen of F-PROT Antivirus. here are three types of status messages:<
- "Virus signature files are up-to-date" : The virus signature files are the newest signatures that are available from FRISK Software.
- "New virus signature files are available" : The computer is connected to the Internet and the Update Monitor has found a newer version of the signature files on FRISK Software's servers. You need to use the Updater component to download the latest virus signature files.
- "New virus signature files may be available" : The computer has not been connected to the Internet for 3 consecutive days and the Update Monitor has not been able to scan for new signatures. However, new virus signature files are issued frequently and it is highly likely that new virus signature files are available on FRISK Software's servers.

Using the Security Center in Windows XP Service Pack 2
F-PROT Antivirus uses the F-PROT Antivirus Update Monitor to communicate with the Security Center in Windows XP Service Pack 2. The result is that the Security Center will alert the user if F-PROT Antivirus has not been updated:
If you access the Windows Security Center and the virus signature files are not up to date, a warning will be displayed indicating that F-PROT Antivirus might be out of date:
If you update the virus signature files regularly you should not see this warning from the Security Center.
