How to enable and disable the automatic scanners

We highly recommend keeping the automatic scanners enabled to provide automatic real-time protection to all files including archives, e-mail attachments and code downloads that are accessed or downloaded on your computer. Disabling the automatic scanners will put your computer at risk of being infected by viruses, worms, Trojans and other malicious softwares.

Below is a step-by-step guide to enable and disable the automatic scanners. Please select what you would like to do:

Enabling the automatic scanners

To enable the automatic scanners, you may either enable their service in the System status menu or the Virus scanners menu.

In the System status menu - most convenient way

When the automatic scanners are disabled, a red graphic symbol is displayed in the System status menu. Click on each automatic scanners to enable their service. Do the following:

1. Run F-PROT Antivirus and the System status menu opens.
2. From this window, click on "Complete file system protection", "Outlook e-mail protection", and "Internet Explorer protection".

In the Virus scanners menu

When the automatic scanners are disabled, a red graphic symbol is displayed in the Virus scanners menu. Click Enable on each automatic scanners to enable their service. Do the following:

1. Run F-PROT Antivirus.
2. Click the Virus scanners menu. From this window, click on the Enable button for "Complete file system protection", "Outlook e-mail protection" and "Internet Explorer protection".

Disabling the automatic scanners

Disabling the automatic scanners will put your computer at risk of being infected by viruses, worms, Trojans and other malicious software while accessing files on your computer or downloading objects from the Internet. A red graphic symbol is displayed for each automatic scanner when its service is disabled.

Automatic file system protection

1. Run F-PROT Antivirus.
2. Click the Virus scanners menu.
3. Under Virus scanners, select File system.
4. In the File system window, clear the Enable automatic file protection check box to disable the service.
5. Click Save.

Internet Explorer protection

1. Run F-PROT Antivirus.
2. Click the Virus scanners menu.
3. Under Virus scanners, select Internet/E-mail.
4. In the Internet/E-mail window, clear the Enable Internet Explorer protection check box to disable the service and then click Save.

Outlook e-mail protection

1. Run F-PROT Antivirus.
2. Click the Virus scanners menu.
3. Under Virus scanners, select Internet/E-mail.
4. In the Internet/E-mail window, clear the Enable Outlook e-mail protection check box to disable the service
5. Click Save.
