Please note that all infected files that F-PROT Antivirus is unable to disinfect will be quarantined. Below
are several possible reasons why F-PROT Antivirus is unable to disinfect the virus:
- The infection is located in the system
volume information folder (_restore) and is therefore
locked in the System Restore. For
further information, see Disabling System Restore.
- The infection is located in Windows system file. Windows locks system files while it is
running and so F-PROT Antivirus does not have write access to disinfect the file. In this case you
will have to use the Command-Line Scanner to disinfect your computer. For further information, see
How to scan for viruses with the Command-Line Scanner.
- The infected file is located within an
archive. F-PROT Antivirus disinfect
within archives but in the first layer only (files compressed once). If an archive is compressed more than once
(ex. ZIP files compressed again with ZIP format), infected files cannot be automatically cleaned. The infected
files will then be move to the quarantine automatically.
For further information, see
How to disinfect infected compressed archives.
- The file is infected by an unknown virus; it is possible that the virus is new and has been caught
by the F-PROT Antivirus
heuristics engine. In this case,
send us the infected file for
analysis. Our virus analysts will analyze the file and if the file turns out to be infected by a virus,
they will release a virus signature file to treat it. Update your virus signature and
rescan your computer.
- The virus signature file is not up to date. It is very important when performing a scan to have
the latest virus signature file running on the program. The virus signature file provides F-PROT
Antivirus with all the necessary information, including what to search for and how to disinfect. New virus
signature file is issued regularly in response to any new emerging threats. To keep your program and the
virus signature file up to date, please set F-PROT Antivirus to "Completely automatic update". This automatic update
option will automatically download and install latest security updates on your computer as soon as they are
available. For further information, please see
How to set up automatic updates.
