This guide offers an introduction to help you get started using F-PROT Antivirus. For administrators, please read the setup guide (included in the LAN Update package) for further information on how to setup the software in a network.

Notes:
For Internet Update of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows Corporate only. When the download starts, your Subscription Key is displayed. Please take note of your Subscription Key because you may need to enter it in the program during the installation.
If you are having problems logging in to the Customer Zone, please see I cannot login to the Customer Zone.
For trial users, please download the trial version of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows.
For registered users, enter your Subscription Key.
For trial users, select Get trial subscription key and enter your name and e-mail address. Once your application is granted, your Subscription Key is automatically added in the program.
For the LAN Update package of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows Corporate only. Enter the local network update location from where settings and virus signature file will be updated from. Please note that you can also enter the local network update location after installation.
Obtaining a Subscription Key and entering it into the program
For Internet Update package of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows Corporate only.
F-PROT Antivirus requires a Subscription Key to be able to download updates. When you buy or renew your subcription, a new subscription key will be assigned for you. Therefore, you need to obtain your new subscription key and enter it in the program. Your Subscription key can be obtain either within the program or in the Customer Zone.
Please note that when your subscription key is about to expire, F-PROT Antivirus will start checking for new subscription. If you have bought or renewed your subscription, your new subscription key will be automatically added in the program.
The most convenient way to obtain your subscription key is by using the "Get new key" function in the program. Do the following:

In the Customer Zone, click the arrow under "key" then a new windows opens (see below).

Local network update location is where all settings and latest virus signature files are stored.
Updating the virus signature files and settings
For Internet Update package of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows Corporate only
By default, the Internet Update package of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows Corporate updates the virus signature file via the Internet automatically without user interaction. For further information, see How to set up automatic updates
For LAN Update package of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows Corporate only
The LAN Update package will be installed on all client workstations and then there has to be at least one computer (server) on the network with F-PROT Antivirus for Windows, Internet Update package, installed (see below).

On the client workstations, specify the shared update location. This can be done either during or after the installation. If this is done after the installation, do one of the following:
Note:Make sure that the F-PROT Antivirus service on the client machine (running in system account) has access to the shared update location (see "Setting Security and Access").
To update the virus signature file for the LAN Update package
An administrator must copy the latest virus signature file (antivir.def) from the Internet Update package to the shared update location from where the clients computers can update their local copies.
To update the settings files for the LAN Update package
If program settings for all client computers must be suitable for the network environment, the administrator may set his/her local copy of F-PROT Antivirus with the desired settings and then copy the settings files to the shared update location. The settings files are the following:

By default, the Internet Update package of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows Corporate updates the software automatically via the Internet without user interaction. If some files are locked, it may require to restart your computer to apply the latest updates.

Program upgrades (MSI/MSP) for the LAN Update package for F-PROT Antivirus for Windows Corporate must be downloaded from the Customer Zone and distributed manually on the network.

You may check for available updates to ensure that F-PROT Antivirus is running with the latest versions. If updates are available, F-PROT Antivirus will download and install the latest updates immediately.

Running a full scan on your computer
We highly recommended that you scan your computer thoroughly for virus infections the first time you run F-PROT Antivirus. Please note that F-PROT Antivirus automatically disinfects or quarantines all infected files upon detection. To run a full scan, do the following:
When you have not fully scanned your computer for some time, F-PROT Antivirus will display a message in the System Status notifying you that some important tasks must be performed immediately.
