F-PROT Antivirus for Windows |

You received an e-mail with an infected attachment then F-PROT Antivirus quarantines the whole Thunderbird's Inbox
instead of taking action on just one e-mail. To prevent this issue, do the following:
- Set F-PROT Antivirus to "Ask each time" instead of "Disinfect
automatically" in the File System Protection, under Virus Scanners.
For further information, see
How to set up the automatic scanners.
- Set F-PROT Antivirus to exclude Thunderbird's Inbox file (located
in your profile folder) from being scanned for viruses.
e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Thunderbird\
Profiles\<example.default>\Mail\Local Folders\Inbox
You may also want to exclude other mailbox files (such as "Sent", "Templates",
etc.) from being scanned.
For further information, see
How to view, add or delete excluded files, folders and extensions.
- Set Thunderbird (version 1.5 or later) to download each individual
message to a separate file before adding it to your Inbox. This should
make it easier for F-PROT Antivirus to quarantine individual messages
instead of taking action on the whole Inbox file.
- Enable: "Tools : Options : Privacy : Anti-Virus : Allow anti-virus
clients to quarantine individual incoming messages"
To recover a quarantined Thunderbird's Inbox:
- Disable file system protection.
- IMPORTANT: back up your profile folder.
- Go to Virus scanners then Quarantine Items. Select the "Inbox" (or other affected mail file) and then click Restore.
- In Thunderbird, delete the infected message, empty the Trash for the affected account and compact folders for the affected account.
- Enable file system protection.
- Verify all your e-mail is present.
