Please note that version 6 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows has been released. We recommend that all Home, Corporate and Mail Server users of version 3 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows upgrade their program to the newest version as soon as possible.

Testing version 3 of F-PROT Antivirus with the EICAR test file

The correct operation of F-PROT Antivirus can be tested with a special test file known as EICAR Standard Anti-virus Test file. Naturally, the European Institute of Computer Anti-virus Research (EICAR) is a simple file which behaves exactly like a virus but when executed, EICAR.COM will display the text 'EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE' and exit.

We do not include the EICAR test file with the package to avoid alarming anyone running F-PROT Antivirus on the package.

Testing F-PROT Antivirus OnDemand Scanner:

Before you begin, make sure that the RealTime Protector is enabled. If the RealTime Protector is enabled, you may see its icon displayed in the system tray (see below). If not, run F-PROT Antivirus and click the RealTime Protector button.

1. Run Notepad.
2. Write the following single line in the document:

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H* 

3. Save the file and name it EICAR.COM on your Desktop.
4. Open the file.

If your scanner is working within normal parameters, you should receive a screen output similar to this one:

Testing F-PROT Antivirus OnDemand Scanner:

1. Disable the RealTime Protector. Do the following:
• Right-click the F-StopW icon in the system tray and select Exit.
2. Run Notepad.
3. Write the following single line in the document:

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

4. Save the file and name it EICAR.COM on your Desktop.
5. Right-click the EICAR.COM file and select "Scan with F-PROT Antivirus".

If your scanner is working within normal parameters, you should receive a screen output similar to this one:



6. Remember to enable the RealTime Protector again when you have finished testing. Do the following:
• Run F-PROT Antivirus and click the RealTime Protector button in the menu. If the RealTime Protector is enabled, you may see its icon in the system tray (see below).
