Please note that version 6 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows has been released. We recommend that all Home, Corporate and Mail Server users of version 3 of F-PROT Antivirus for Windows upgrade their program to the newest version as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT: The instructions below are valid for any language version of Windows XP, but be aware the download we offer in Step 7 is for the German language version of Windows XP only.

NOTE: If you used a Windows XP CD that already contained Service Pack 2 in the steps above, you may skip this step.

1. Insert the original Windows XP CD (Windows XP with Service Pack 2 is preferred, but not required) and reboot the computer. You may need to configure your computer to boot from the CD-ROM drive.
2. When the Windows XP Setup has started, press "R" to "repair the Windows XP installation using Recovery Console".
3. Select the Windows installation to repair (generally this is C:\Windows) by typing its number and then pressing ENTER.
4. Type the Administrator password and press ENTER.
5. Type the following commands:

D:				 	[ENTER] 
CD I386					[ENTER]
EXPAND USERINIT.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32	[ENTER]

NOTE: If your CD-ROM drive has a different letter assigned to it, enter "X:" instead, where X is the appropriate drive letter.

After entering "EXPAND USERINIT.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32" you should see the text "1 file(s) copied", in which case all went well.

Remove the Windows XP CD, type "EXIT" and press ENTER to restart your computer. You should now be able to log on as normally.

6. Update your virus signature files using the Updater component.
7. Replace the original USERINIT.EXE (acquired from the Windows XP CD) with the latest version included in Service Pack 2.

To do this, *click here to download the latest USERINIT.EXE. Save the file in C:\Windows\System32 and overwrite the existing file.

*This file is applicable for the German language version of Windows XP only.

German version

Wichtig: Die folgenden Anweisungen sind für jede Sprachenversion von Windows XP gültig, der Download, den wir in Schritt 7 anbieten, ist aber nur für die deutsche Sprachenversion von Windows XP gültig.

ANMERKUNG: Wenn Sie eine Windows XP CD benutzten, die bereits Service-Pack 2 in den Schritten oben enthielt, können Sie diesen Schritt überspringen.

1. Legen Sie die Windows- Original XP CD ein und booten Sie Ihren Computer mit der CD.
2. Drücken Sie den R-TASTE für die Windows XP Installation, mit der Wiederherstellungskonsole reparieren.

4. Geben Sie das Administratorkennwort ein und drücken Sie die Eingabetaste.
5. Schreiben Sie die folgenden Befehle:

EXPAND USERINIT.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32	[ENTER]

ANMERKUNG: Wenn Ihr CD-ROM einen anderen Buchstaben hat, ändern Sie ihn entsprechend.

Entfernen Sie die Windows XP CD, schreiben Sie "EXIT" und drücken die Eingabetaste, um Ihren Computer neu zu starten.

6. Aktualisieren Sie den Virusdateien mit der Updater Programm.
7. Ersetzen Sie die ursprüngliche USERINIT.EXE (erworben von der Windows XP CD) mit der neuesten Version, die in Service-Pack 2 eingeschlossen ist.

*Klicken hier, um die neueste USERINIT.EXE Datei zu downloaden. Kopieren Sie die Datei in "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32" und überschreiben Sie die vorhandene Datei.
