|Realtime Protector detects a virus with the "$sys$" in the file name or path but the OnDemand Scanner does not detect the infection, what should I do?|
The warning from the RealTime Protector says:
If you receive a warning like this, then you should scan your computer with the OnDemand Scanner.
If it does not find the virus and the file name or path in the warning from the RealTime Protector contains "$sys$" then it is hidden by Sony's XCP copy protection (Extended Copy Protection).
Sony's XCP copy protection hides all files whose name contains "$sys$" and the virus is utilizing the XCP to hide itself in the system. To fix this problem please uninstall the XCP copy protection software.Removing the XCP copy protection software:
Sony has released an update that removes the cloaking technology component of XCP. Please go to http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/english/updates.html to obtain the update.
The complete uninstallation of the XCP copy protection software can only be done by sending an uninstallation request to Sony through their customer support. Please go to http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/english/form14.html for the request form.
After uninstalling the XCP copy protection software, please scan your computer with OnDemand scanner. It should now find and disinfect the virus.
