Disinfecting viruses with the Command-Line Scanner in Windows 2000/2003/XP

Before you perform the command-line scanning, please make sure that F-PROT Antivirus is using the latest virus signature files. For detailed instructions on updating the virus signature files, click here.

To scan with the Command-Line Scanner:

  1. Open the command prompt (Click Start > Run then type cmd)
  2. At the command prompt, type the following:
  3. c: [ENTER]
    cd\[ENTER]
    cd program files[ENTER]
    cd fsi[ENTER]
    cd f-prot[ENTER]
    fpcmd c: /disinf /auto /report=dosrep.txt[ENTER]

The command, c: /disinf /auto /report=dosrep.txt, scans drive C: and disinfects infected/suspicious files found automatically. Then creates a scan report named dosrep.txt (user defined report name). To view your scan report, browse "C:\Program Files\FSI\F-Prot" (default location) and open "dosrep.txt". For further information, see Command-Line Scanner scanning switches. Please note that the scanning must be done for each drive individually.

  4. When the scan has completed, please restart the computer.

NB! If the scanner simply runs for about 2-3 seconds and then reports that it only scanned the boot sector and mbr it is likely that you did not put a space in between the commands. There is a space in front of all the commands, i.e. SPACE /disinf SPACE /auto etc.
