| F-PROT Antivirus isn't detecting my eicar.com.txt test file, why is that? |
The EICAR antivirus test-file does not contain any malicious code and its only purpose is to test an antivirus installation. Windows treats files with ".txt" extensions as text files and not as executable files and F-PROT Antivirus therefore does not scan for the EICAR test-file if it is named eicar.com.txt. However, if you rename "eicar.com.txt" to "eicar.com" then F-PROT Antivirus will detect it. F-PROT Antivirus will also detect it if it is stored in a ZIP archive, (provided that it is named eicar.com inside the ZIP archive, but regardless of the name of the ZIP archive itself).
