Why do I need an antivirus program for Linux?

There is a common misconception that Linux has inherent security policies that inhibit viral infections. In fact, this misconception increases the likelihood of a Linux virus epidemic as Linux users are not as careful when opening attachments. Windows users have often learnt from bitter experience that it pays to be alert.

In addition, an antivirus solution for Linux is often necessary in order to properly protect Windows workstations that connect to a Linux server.
