The installer automatically creates a crontab entry for the updater to ensure that F-PROT Antivirus is kept up to date. The way this is done is designed to avoid peak loads at the update server so please do not edit the crontab entry unless you have a very good reason to.
If you do have to change the crontab entry it is recommended that you look at the manpage for crontab. Here is some information on how to do this.
The time and date fields are:
field allowed values minute 0-59 hour 0-23 day of month 1-31 month 1-2 (or names, see below) day of week 0-7 (0 or 7 is Sun, or use names)
To run this script as a cron-job, it is necessary to create a crontab entry similar to the following example. Here is an example of a crontab entry which runs fpupdate twice a day: 04:27 and 16:27:
27 4,16 * * * /opt/f-prot/fpupdate --quietHere is the same example with proxy authentication included:
27 4,16 * * * /opt/f-prot/fpupdate --quiet --proxy-server=http://localhost:3128 --proxy-username=myusername --proxy-password=mypassword
The exact syntax may be different for your version of cron and it is recommended that you look at the manpages for cron on your system.
