The F-PROT AVES service protects your e-mail against security threats. However, you can
receive malicious software through other channels:
- Direct infection, e.g. such as Msblast. Msblast exploited a vulnerability in
certain operating systems and it infected computers via the Internet, not via e-mail. To
decrease the chances of this happening, please make sure that you keep your operating
system as up-to-date as possible.
- CDs, floppies, USB keys, memory cards. You should always scan files that come from
the "outside" before you run/open them.
- Downloads. If you are using, e.g. FTP, to download from the Internet, you should
scan the file(s) with an up-to-date antivirus product before you run it/them.
- P2P-programs, such as Kazaa and Napster.
