Version 6 of F-PROT Antivirus for Linux is a new, significantly enhanced version that incorporates version 4 of F-PROT Scanning Engine which has been updated considerably compared to the previous version. F-PROT Antivirus for Linux now also supports both 32bit and 64bit versions of Linux x86. Due to major changes, the usage of many F-PROT subsystems have been changed in addition to normal upgrades.
Name changes and additions:
| Old name | New name | F-PROT Antivirus for Linux |
| f-prot | fpscan | Workstation, Fileserver, Mailserver |
| f-protd | fpscand | Fileserver, Mailserver |
| f-prot.so | fp.so | Fileserver, Mailserver |
| f-prot-updater.pl | fpupdate | Workstation, Fileserver, Mailserver |
| (new) | fpmon | Fileserver, Mailserver |
The virus definitions have also been combined into one file, instead of the previous three, and the update procedure has been improved considerably.
Many parameters and result codes have changed so it is recommended that users of the previous version have a look at the man pages and documentation.
These changes result in a substantial increase in the number of viruses detected, 2119958 instead of 546460, as well as much improved heuristics. The new engine combined with the new Dazuko-based on-access scanner means that this is one of the largest and most substantial updates ever to our Linux F-PROT Antivirus product line.
Linux users get a chance to try out the new features and improvements slightly ahead of time as we continue to prepare an update to our entire Unix product line. Details for our earlier release (which continues to be available from our customer zone) are below.
F-PROT Antivirus for Linux x86 File Servers is a high speed virus protection that detects and disinfects or deletes malicious programs intended for file and application servers running Linux.
Unknown threats are detected with F-PROT's heuristic ability, thus providing the strongest defense available, which is vitally important due to the large number of users that Linux servers often provide service to.
