New versions of F-Prot Antivirus for UNIX released
Customers using F-Prot Antivirus Mail Scanner (scan-mail.pl) with the Milter framework in Sendmail (f-prot-milter) and version 10 of Solaris SPARC are advised not to update F-Prot Antivirus for Solaris SPARC to version 4.6.0 for the time being. Instead these customers are advised to use version 4.5.4 until the issue in question is resolved in version 4.6.1 of F-Prot Antivirus for Solaris SPARC, which will soon be released.
Please note that customers using Solaris SPARC versions 8 and 9; Solaris x86 versions 8, 9 and 10; or other platforms are not affected by this problem.
FRISK Software has released versions 4.6.0 of F-Prot Antivirus for Linux x86, for BSD x86, for Solaris SPARC, for Solaris x86, for AIX on IBM pSeries and for Linux on IBM zSeries.
The scanning engine in versions 4.6.0 of F-Prot Antivirus for UNIX based platforms includes a number of bugfixes as well as improved scanning methods. However, these new versions also include some very important new features:
- Automatic deletion of e-mail messages containing mass mailer worms
- Automatic quarantining of all executable attachments
- Extended configurability
- Bugfixes and extended functionality
The automatic deletion of mass mailer worms significantly decreases the load on your network's e-mail processing resources, thereby improving the speed, efficiency and security of your entire network. Equally importantly, the automatic deletion of mass mailer worms spares end-users the considerable trouble and time otherwise spent on deleting often hundreds of empty mass-mailed messages, every single day.
The automatic quarantining of all e-mail messages bearing executable attachments, even when not positively identified as malicious, prevents any new and unknown threats from entering your system before your antivirus software has been updated. This new feature sets the standard of data security higher than ever before, allowing both end-users and system administrators alike to rest assured in the knowledge that data enjoys the best possible protection against viruses, worms and other malware threats.
While both of the above mentioned features are entirely configurable, the general configurability of F-Prot Antivirus for UNIX Mail Servers has also been extended and simplified in these new versions with the introduction of a central configuration file*. Also, upon its installation, F-Prot Antivirus for UNIX now automatically configures mail servers to use F-Prot Antivirus.
As a result of the changes introduced in these newest versions, F-Prot Antivirus for UNIX based platforms can continue to provide its users with some of the most secure, reliable, and high-quality data security and malware protection available today.
* Please note that this also applies to the Preloadable Library Call Wrapper in F-Prot Antivirus for Linux File Servers.
